Still waiting on that vaccine safety commission thingy

Okay, bear with me here. I’m having to breathe deeply a few times. Okay. Fine now. Yesterday, President Trump signed an Executive Order creating a National Opioid Commission to investigate the opioid addiction epidemic in the United States. It me left wondering, “Uh, what about that Autism and Vaccine Safety Commission so many of us have been awaiting with great anticipation and hope?” In an article today on the PBS website, the piece began:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will lead a new national opioid commission created Wednesday by an executive order from President Donald Trump that also maps out his administration’s latest strategy to combat the public health crisis. “Addiction is a disease, and no life is disposable.” The fight against the opioid epidemic is “one that’s incredibly important to every family in every corner of this country,” Christie said Wednesday in an interview with The Today Show, adding he and Trump “both care passionately about this issue and we want to save lives.”

In a sane and just world, that excerpt should have read:

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will lead a new national autism and vaccine safety commission created Wednesday by an executive order from President Donald Trump that also maps out his administration’s latest strategy to combat the public health crisis. ” Autism is a disease and no life is disposable.” The fight against the autism epidemic and other neurological damage caused by vaccines is “one that’s incredibly important to every family in every corner of this country,” Kennedy said Wednesday in an interview with The Today Show, adding he and Trump “both care passionately about this issue and we want to save lives.”

So all it takes is an Executive Order? That’s it? Pull out a fancy piece of paper and sign it. That’s it? So, what exactly is the hold up? Opioids? Really?
