No, actually, the American people DO care about their presidential candidates releasing their tax returns, especially when there are huge issues of trust and credibility and character involved. It’s part of the “vetting” process, ya see. Part of the résumé. I mean, you really don’t expect we the people to take candidates at their word, right? That would be silly and just plain naive and irresponsible. It’s the highest office in the land, for God’s sake. It’s also kind of insulting to say we don’t NEED to see them. That’s more than a bit uppity, wouldn’t ya say—like something mouthed by someone expecting to be crowned. Sorry, not in America. No kings or queens allowed here.
