What, you don’t believe in science?

I find it amusing when you tell people you have doubts and questions about vaccines, and they reply, “What, don’t you believe in science?” They treat the word “science” as if it were a deity, a god… something to be worshipped. The thinking is if you doubt it, if you question it, then you must not be willing to worship it. And that’s just not acceptable to certain people. The question is a close cousin of the question, “What, don’t you believe in God?” To that one, I usually ask for clarification. I say, “Well, tell me what you mean by ‘God’?” Tell me what you mean by “science,” and then perhaps I can provide an answer. Oh, you mean YOUR science?
