There is an overly simplistic view that government likes to pass regulations just because it wants to control our lives. What this view often neglects to mention is that government regulations are usually a response to irresponsible, destructive, or criminal behavior; they are the consequence of gross and repeated violations of the public trust. Those who advocate for the repeal of certain regulations commonly argue for freedom and liberty, but most tend to accept that these ideals should not be without limits — particularly for those who most tend to abuse them.
