non-utopian nicaragua

If people think that Nicaragua is an utopia for laborers and campesinos, they are dreaming. Two decades after the so-called revolution of the people in Nicaragua, and that country remains poorer than Honduras and remains under the control of one individual… Daniel Ortega. This is neither a good example of national development nor social justice nor democracy. What happened in Nicaragua is that one corrupt and incompetent regime led by an egomaniac from the right was replaced by a corrupt and incompetent regime led by an egomaniac of the left. So what exactly is the point of it all? Seems to me that all the colorful and romantic talk of socialism, communism, Che, Fidel, etc… is empty and infantile. Unless we adopt new and enlightened ways of dealing with poverty and injustice, as well as how to engage each other without making things worse, then we will continue to repeat the mistakes of the past and the poor and powerless will remain poor and powerless.
