It is good to have a conversation about violence in Honduras. Some complain about the violence perpetuated by organized crime and gangs. Some complain about the violence of the Resistance. Some complain about the violence of the security forces. I think the truth is that all of this violence pales in comparison to the violence of apathy in Honduras. Apathy is akin to violence. If we overlook the plight of the poor, the impact on them is the same… they suffer violently. If we are serious about addressing violence in Honduras, then we have to begin to broaden our definition of the word.
