A delayed apology to Galileo

When you are guilty of an offense or a crime, and you know it… and you know that everyone else knows it, then the intelligent and reasonable thing to do is come clean, completely clean, even at the risk of losing your reputation and your material possessions. The worst thing you can do is to deny what the world already knows. The worse thing is to attack those have accused you and hold proof of your guilt. The sooner you allow light to enter and cleanse, the sooner you can move forward and begin anew. The leaders of the Catholic Church arrested and tortured Galileo in 1633 for his claim that the Earth revolves around the Sun. The Church did not apologize until 1992. Why do such obvious wrongs have to take so long to be admitted and corrected?
