The biggest threat to Honduras is not Hugo Chavez or Manuel Zelaya or socialism or poverty. I think the biggest threat to Honduras is the US market for illegal drugs. It is that market that is fueling the huge expansion of shipments of cocaine into Honduras from South America. Most of that commodity is transported through Honduras into Guatemala then Mexico and finally the USA. But a portion of it remains in Honduras, which is sold to finance organized crime and gang violence or used to create a new generation of addicts who further drain the country of its limited resources and productive citizens.
