I do consider myself more of a centrist on the political situation in Honduras. While I very much oppose Mr. Zelaya, I understand that the views of la Resistencia are legitimate and that its members have every right to protest peacefully and make themselves heard for as long as it takes. I agree that the status quo in Honduras cannot be sustained. I also agree that the coup that occurred probably wasn’t “legal”, at least not entirely. In principle, I am against coups. In principle, I am also against wars. But I do believe there are justifiable exceptions in both cases. I think that Mr. Zelaya is mentally ill, and so I am very glad that he is out of power. Clearly, Honduras needs to revise its Constitution to allow for an efficient process for impeaching incompetent and dangerous presidents because coups are too traumatic for a society.
