President Obama was not elected to do what is in the best interest of Honduras (… although I think that is precisely what he is doing). The responsibility for doing what is in the best interest of Honduras is up to those of us who are committed to making Honduras a better place. I think the situation in Honduras could be infinitely worse. The country is relatively calm, and so that allows those thousands of volunteers who are working on grassroots projects to empower the people of Honduras to continue their efforts. The responsibility for what has happened in Honduras lies within Honduran society. I don’t think we should seek to lay the blame elsewhere. Mel Zelaya is a symptom of all that is wrong in Honduras. And all that is wrong in Honduras is a symptom of the apathy of its society toward the basic needs of the vast portion of its population.
