We are taught to respect our elders. I have no problem with that as far as it goes. But the implication seems to be that the older you get the more deserving you are of respect. I believe the opposite is true. I think the younger you are the more you deserve and need respect. My assumption is that the more we age the more enlightened we become and thus the more we realize that respect comes from within, not without.
