Those who do not believe that the arrest and exile of Manuel Zelaya by the military was not a coup (including myself) are missing the point. Sometimes reality is all about perception. To most of the world, Mr. Zelaya’s ousting looked, walked, and smelled like a coup… therefore, it WAS a coup. I understand and I think I agree with the arguments about why this wasn’t a traditional coup or even a coup at all. Just as I tend to believe that there are “just” wars, I have to believe that there are also “just” coups. If I had to pick a just coup, the one that occurred in Honduras on June 28, 2009 would fit the bill.
